Be useful

Let’s take a moment to reflect on how to be a truly valuable developer and enthusiast for Power Platform in your organization.

What should you focus on, what should you avoid, and how can you be successful?

What comes first: creating an app, a flow, a report, or having a discussion about the right approach and the needs of the end user?

When should you dive into development on your own, and when is it better to bring in someone else for the project?

Building Internal Delivery Teams – Lessons Learned

The implementation of Power Platform at CETIN ranks among the largest projects of its kind in the Czech Republic. The team behind it will share their experiences with you. What lessons have they learned? What went well, and what would they do differently today? Join us to hear a story that showcases the journey of Power Platform in complex organizations, from the first steps to fully functioning solutions.

Two years ago, CETIN faced a pivotal decision—after several unsuccessful attempts with other systems, they chose Power Platform to digitalize the critical Plan & Build process. The journey wasn’t easy, but the application is now in production and demonstrates that Power Platform has its place at CETIN. However, what obstacles had to be overcome?

Low-code development has its own specifics compared to traditional development tools. Together, we’ll present these nuances and share experiences on how to structure a team in a large organization, prepare requirements, collaborate effectively with internal and external resources, and ensure proper governance.

The implementation will be presented by:

  • Martin Solanka (CETIN): As the delivery team leader, he will highlight the key experiences and lessons learned from the project.
  • Tomáš Janů (Aricoma): One of the team’s first members, developer, and author of the Proof of Concept. He will explain the right approach to requirements analysis and solution design.
  • Tomáš Prokop (NETWORG): He will share his expertise on setting up development processes and tools, including DevOps and ALM, and on critical architectural decisions.

Pre-con Speakers & Workshops

Discover What You’ll Learn in the Trainings

Power Up Your Power Platform development with Power Automate

If you want to take your Power Platform development to the next level, this workshop is for you. You will discover how Power Automate can help you create custom workflows and integrations for your bots, apps, websites and reports.

You will also learn how to leverage Power Automate features such as triggers, actions, connectors, expressions and conditions to automate common tasks and scenarios across different platforms and services. Whether you want to send personalized emails, respond to Teams messages, generate documents, or update data sources, you will find out how Power Automate can make it easier and faster.

Goals:

This workshop will cover how to use Power Automate to improve your bot with Copilot Studio, applications including model-driven and canvas apps, as well as websites with Power Pages and reporting within Power BI.

A few examples:

  • Did you ever want a custom button on top of your model driven app that does an action for you? Like send an email with that item, but be able to fully customize it?
  • Or in Microsoft Teams, whenever someone mentions a keyword like Sales overview 2024, to automatically pick that up and send them that overview?
  • Whenever someone submits a new item in your Power App, to automatically notify management, create approvals and schedule review board meetings.

Join me as I teach you the ins and outs of Power Automate Cloud flows, and possibly some mentions of RPA flows and custom connector scenarios along all Power Platform products.

From data to action: Driving decision-making with Power BI

Let’s face it; there are probably not many people designing dashboards and reports just to have something pretty to look at. Companies asking for dashboards want to get insights and eventually take action with these insights.
Many Power BI dashboards companies use do not fully fulfill this need. Often there is data, which is good, but taking action and taking the next step with the insights needs many additional steps… When we take a step back, the dashboards were intended to lessen the workload and not add to the workload.

In this session, “From Data to Action,” I will show how you can visualize the data in a way that helps companies to take the next step. Often, this is not complicated, and you don’t need to buy additional tools. Just some visual tweaks will go a long way!

Also, this session will focus on asking the right questions and tailoring the design to your audience. So it’s a mix of visuals, examples, and theory about choosing the right design to answer the (actual) question.

Whether you are a business analyst, a data enthusiast, or a decision maker, this session will help you to bring your dashboards to the next level. It will also help you to communicate more clearly to the team what you are looking for, even if you don’t know everything about Power BI and dashboard design.

The Cost of a Workaround – Key considerations for Power BI

From using SVGs or DENEB to create unique visuals, to page level security with RLS – workarounds are often necessary to overcome limitations and achieve desired functionalities in Power BI. However, these workarounds come with their own set of costs and considerations. This session discusses the key factors to help developers evaluate workarounds in Power BI, ensuring that the benefits outweigh the potential drawbacks.

To do this, we will explore some real-life workarounds in Power BI such as code-based Custom Visuals (DENEB, SVGs, HTML, Python), Page level security, and storing a custom PowerQuery library in Github. We will also dive into the trade-offs involved, including maintainability, impact on development, and technical debt.

This session is aimed at the intermediate Power BI Developer, to help them answer the question – Should I use this workaround? Attendees are encouraged to have some experience with custom visuals and PowerQuery with the Advanced Editor.

The Ultimate Power Slam: Model-Driven Apps vs. Power Pages Portals

In the grand arena of CRM development, Model-Driven Apps have been the reigning champions. The speed of development and extensibility they provide to business users is unparalleled. But what if you need to provide a web experience for external users with Power Pages? It is not a simple one-to-one replication. And this is where the royal rumble starts, the stakes are high, and the competition is fierce.

You need the ultimate Power Platform tag team, built on the robust foundations of Dataverse. As it’s not just a one-to-one replication, you need to understand how to transfer your well-known features such as forms, views, and permissions into a portal that is fighting fit.

This session will showcase the best no-code/low-code techniques as the high-flying moves that extend your Model-Driven Apps into Power Pages without needing a full-stack developer. For those tougher opponents of configuration, it will also demonstrate how to collaborate with them to build sustainable websites, ensuring your apps remain the undisputed champions in the digital arena.
